Documents
Working with documents
The main workflow for creating, saving, and applying documents.
A document is created from its list or from a related form. Saving and applying a document are different actions: the availability and effect of application are determined by the document type.
Typical workflow
- Open the list for the required document type.
- Create a new document or open an existing one for editing.
- Complete the required header details and line items, if present.
- Save the document and check the form messages.
- If the document type supports application, apply it only after checking the data.
Document states
The list or form can provide copying, marking for deletion, restoring, applying, and unapplying. These actions do not work the same way for every document type.
Do not treat saving as application. Application is available only for documents that support it, and it can be unavailable because of the document state, dependencies, a closed period, or your role permissions. The effect of application is documented on the page for the specific document.
